This fascinating 4-day program will introduce you to the foundational concepts of yoga therapy including:
- How yoga therapy heals body, mind and emotions
- The role of Ayurveda in Yoga Therapy
- Understanding yoga philosophy, including Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita, as a tool for healing
- The process of ‘diagnosis’ and treatment of students in yoga therapy
- The key principles of yogic psychology and how they relate to healing with yoga therapy
Through a balanced blend of theory and practical work, you will gain real-world skills that you can start using right away to support your students. At the end of this engaging course you will be able to:
- Take a basic case history using the principles of Yoga Therapy
- Help students manage their health using basic Ayurvedic Lifestyle recommendations
- Understand how yoga philosophy informs the practice and techniques of yoga therapy
- Understand the key concepts in yoga psychology in the context of healing

Yoga Therapy Fundamentals (Thurs 7 March - Fri 8 March 2019)
This module lays the foundations for studying therapeutic yoga with an enquiry into the nature of yoga therapy, the attributes of a therapeutic yoga teacher and the traditional ayurvedic framework for healing through yoga. We'll also discover the philosophical foundations of yoga therapy as we explore the therapeutic application of classical yoga texts. You’ll also get to work straight away, learning the foundations of therapeutic assessment so that you can begin practicing your developing skills immediately.
Yoga Psychology Fundamentals (Sat 9 - Sun 10 March 2019)
This fascinating module explores the yogic view of the mind, comparing Eastern and Western approaches to psychology. Taking the classical yoga texts as our guide, we will discover the fundamental principles of yoga psychology and learn how to apply them to meet the therapeutic needs of individual students. We will also study the integration of mindfulness and the principles of positive psychology into yoga therapy.
Certified yoga teachers with a minimum of 200hrs training who love learning about the psychology and philosophy of yoga and want to explore the foundational principles of yoga therapy.
You will be learning from Australia's leading yoga therapists, with over 50 yrs experience between them.
Nikola Ellis MCAP, C-IAYT
Founder of Adore Yoga, Nikola has been immersed in yoga for over 25 years, studying with leading international teachers including TKV Desikachar, Judith Lasater, Donna Farhi, Ganesh Mohan, and Saraswathi Vasudevan. Nikola has been training yoga teachers and therapists for 14 years and runs a successful private Yoga Therapy practice in Sydney. She develops, delivers and consults on Yoga Therapy programs for organisations including A Sound Life, Cancer Council NSW, The Butterfly Foundation and RSL Defence Care. Nikola holds a Master's degree in counselling and applied psychotherapy and is currently studying for a Master's degree in public health. She is a certified Yoga Therapist with Yoga Australia and the IAYT.
Sunita is a yogini, teacher, writer, artist, and coach. She has over a 30 years experience of yoga and over the past 17 years she has taught thousands of students in Australia, USA and India. Sunita has studied yoga, ayurveda and Sanskrit at advanced levels in India (BKS Iyengar Institute), Europe (Yoga Philosophy at the University of Oxford), the USA and Australia. Sunita is passionate about making the sophisticated aspects of yoga philosophy accessible to everyone.
