Yoga Therapy Foundations Curriculum

The Philosophy of Yoga Therapy

Welcome to Yoga Therapy! We start by exploring your vocation as a teacher of therapeutic yoga and discover how your deepest values help you connect to your students in meaningful ways. You’ll learn how the key philosophical texts of yoga create the foundations for Yoga Therapy and about ancient principles and practices that can help to heal physical, emotional and mental dis-ease.

Introduction to Therapeutic Teaching Methodologies

This introduction to therapeutic teaching methodologies will radically change the way you plan and teach yoga classes. You will learn foundational techniques for assessing the needs of individual students and working hands-on with them to meet those needs.

Yoga Therapy and the Breath

Expand your understanding of the subtle energetic body as we explore prana, pranayama and the nadis. Understanding how to work effectively with prana is an important part of yoga therapy. In this workshop, you’ll gain confidence and expertise in teaching powerful techniques that harness the healing power of prana to create profound and healing transformations.

Yoga Anatomy – The Diversity of the Human Body

In this workshop, you’ll taking a fresh look at yogic anatomy as we explore the human body through the yoga lens. No two bodies are the same and this workshop introduces you to the skills required to understand how individual anatomical features impact the way how your students move. You’ll learn why one-size never fits all when it comes to Yoga Therapy and how to adapt what you teach to meet the individual anatomical features of each student.

Introduction to Therapeutic Alignment and Adjusting

Prepare to question some of the alignment and adjusting principles you learned in your Level 1 teacher training! Yoga therapy takes a very different approach to teaching asana and this workshop will help you to take your first steps towards assisting students from a therapeutic viewpoint.

Teaching Adaptive Yoga Classes

In this workshop you will learn how to translate the philosophy of yoga therapy into practical classes that evolve with your students and create a safe, nurturing environment that promotes growth and healing.

Sanskrit for Yoga Teachers

Sanskrit is the language of yoga and your studies will be greatly enhanced when you feel confident reading and pronouncing key Sanskrit terms. This workshop will introduce you to the meanings, sounds and importance of Sanskrit as an important part of your study and practice of therapeutic yoga.

Introduction to Ayurveda in Yoga Therapy

Ayurveda, India's ancient system of healing, is at the very heart of Yoga Therapy. Over two days, you will immerse yourself in the wisdom of Ayurveda and discover how Ayurvedic principles infuse the practice and philosophy of Yoga Therapy. Along the way, you’ll gain the practical skills you need to assess your students using Ayurveda and apply Ayurvedic techniques to support them as they heal from a variety of health conditions.

Yoga Therapy Live!

In this exciting 2 day workshop, you’ll work ‘hands-on’ with live case studies. This is a fascinating opportunity to use what you’ve learned about Yoga Therapy to support real students! We’ll be working with volunteer students, applying the skills you’ve learned during the course to support their healing journey. If you're considering progressing to yoga therapy certification, this exciting, hands-on weekend will give you great insights into how to become a yoga therapist.
